Care and Cleaning

Looking after your sheepskin rug is very simple. Wool is an amazing natural fibre and surprisingly needs very little care. A regular good shake and brush will avoid the need for washing.
We always recommend spot clean only using mild, non-biological, non-bleach detergent.
Washing sheepskin can remove the natural oils which are still present in the rugs even though they have gone through the tanning process.
Washing can also affect the colour of dyed sheepskins.
Occasionally they may need washing so follow these simple rules.
Single and double sheepskin rugs should fit comfortably in larger British washing machines.
Always use the coolest woollen setting and add a dessert spoon of mild, non-biological, non-bleach detergent.
We recommend ‘Wool approved’ detergents which can be bought from most supermarkets or special sheepskin wash products can be purchased from online shops.
Using normal washing powder will attack the skin making it brittle and discolouring the wool.
The washing machine wool cycle will provide a gentle spin which is all the rug needs.
Always remove from the machine promptly after the program has finished.
The rug should be allowed to dry naturally, away from direct heat and sunlight. Flexing the sheepskin as it dries will help to maintain the suppleness.
Give it a brush and it should look as good as new.
